Reign of Blood Review

Title:Reign of Blood
Author: Alexia Purdy
Published: April 29, 2012

Buy: Smashwords

Synopsis:
"Never tease anything that wants to eat you. My name is April Tate and my blood is the new gold. Vampires and hybrids have overrun my world, once vibrant with life, but now a graveyard of death shrouded in shadows. I fight to survive; I fight for my mother and brother. The journey is full of turns that I am quite unprepared for. And I'm just hoping to make it to the next Vegas sunrise..."

In a post-apocalyptic world, a viral epidemic has wiped out most of the earth’s population, leaving behind few humans but untold numbers of mutated vampires. April is a seventeen-year-old girl who lives in the remains of Las Vegas one year after the outbreak. She has become a ferocious vampire killer and after her family is abducted, she goes searching for them. What she finds is a new breed of vampire, unlike any she has seen before. Unsure of whom she can trust, she discovers that her view of the world is not as black and white as she once thought, and she's willing to bend the rules to rescue her family. But in trying to save them, she may only succeed in bringing her fragile world crashing down around her.

My Review:
By the time I was finished reading this book I was speechless and trust me that does not happen very often. It was not in a bad way though, the book so amazing that I just did not know what to say. It has taken me a full day to come up with the words for this review. The book was mind blowing and there was always a twist that I never saw coming. Alexia Purdy took what you would consider nightmares and shows readers what the world would possibly be like if people were turned into vampires. On pages I felt like I wanted to be mad along with April, on others I wanted to scream at the book and ask one of the characters what the heck was wrong with them. I have never been so intuned into a book that if someone walked in the room I jumped haha.

This is def a book you would want to read if your into vampires, end of the world type of stuff. This book will not let you down on keeping you hooked. I had to force myself to stop reading it just to go to bed. So swing by Smashwords today and pick up your copy of Reign of Blood!

When a war breaks out within the Tri-Realms, Adele must escape from prison and seek to uncover her parents' true past, armed with only a wicked roundhouse kick and two fists that have been well-trained for combat by her father. In her world someone must die.

Review
I have never read a book that I enjoyed so much that I slowed down my reading just to make it last longer but with The Moon Dwellers I did just that! The book is an awesome read with fighting, love, and life. I love Adele's character, she is tough and does not care what anyone thinks. The Moon Dwellers is based on people living in different "sociaties" but it shows you that sometimes people are meant to come into your life no matter where they are from or who they are. I love the storyline so far between Adele and Tristian, they are the Romeo & Juliet type, lets just hope they do not end up just like R&J ;)   This book is truely amazing and will leave you wanting more and more but you may catch yourself putting it down just to make it last longer like I did. I can say that it is one of my new favorite books. David is a very talented writer and I look forward to reading more of his work!!

About The Author:

David Estes was born in El Paso, Texas but moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when he was very young. He grew up in Pittsburgh and then went to Penn State for college. Eventually he moved to Sydney, Australia where he met his wife. A reader all his life, he began writing novels for the children's and YA markets in 2010. David is a writer with OCD, a love of dancing and singing (but only when no one is looking or listening), a mad-skilled ping-pong player, and prefers writing at the swimming pool to writing at a table.

Review:
All I can say is WOW!!!!! I honestly picked up this booking thinking "ok another vampire book" but once I started reading its not really just "another vampire book" it was more then that. It was a book that was a page turner, one that I could not put down no matter how hard I wanted too. Lets just say it took me only 2 hours to read this book. It was thrilling and I couldnt wait to turn the page just to see what happened next. I could picture in my head what was going on when Thomas would say or do something. This is my opinion is a MUST READ!!!!

 Review:
I will admit I have never read a science fiction book before this one so I was not quite sure what to expect. Once I started reading it then I could not stop reading it. I was so into the story I could see the pictures in my head as to what was going on. When you can actually put yourself into the book you know you have found an awesome book!! Let me fair warn you thought if you decide to read this book then be sure you have a full day to read it or else you will be up all night reading it, well atleast I was.

About The Author:
Michael Shean was born amongst the sleepy hills and coal mines of southern West Virgina in 1978. Taught to read by his parents at a very early age, he has had a great love of the written word since the very beginning of his life. Growing up, he was oftern plagued with feelings of isolation and loneliness: he began writing off and on to help deflect this, though these themes are often explored in his work as a consequence. At the age of 16, Michael began to experience a chain of vivid nightmares that has continued to this day; it is from these aberrant dreams that he draws inspiration.

In 2001 Michael left West Virginia to pursue a career in the tech industry, and he settled in Washington, DC area as a web designer and graphic artist. As a result his writing was put aside and not revisitied until five years later. In 2006 he met his current fiance, who urged him to pick up his writing once more. Several years of work and experimentation yieled the core of what would become his first novel, Shadow of a Dead Star (2011). Michael is currently signed with Curiosity Quills Press, who has overtaken the publication of Shadow of a Dead Star and the other books of his Wonderland Cycle.

Binding Arbitration Review/Giveaway

Title: Binding Arbitration
Author: Elizabeth Marx
Genre: Romance, Family Saga, Contemporary/Chick Lit
Publisher: Self Published
Paperback/Ebook
Pages:477

Purchase:

Amazon Kindle  Amazon Paperback  Barnes & Noble  iTunes  Sony eReader  Diesel

Book Description:Through the corridors of the Windy City’s criminal courts, single mother Libby Tucker knows exactly how far she’ll go to save her cancer-stricken son’s life. The undefeated defense attorney is prepared to take her fight all the way to the majors.

Circumstances force Libby to plead her case at the cleats of celebrity baseball player Banford Aidan Palowski, the man who discarded her at their college graduation. Libby has worked her backside bare for everything she’s attained, while Aidan has been indulged since he slid through the birth canal and landed in a pile of Gold Coast money. But helping Libby and living up to his biological duty could jeopardize the only thing the jock worships: his baseball career.

If baseball imitates life, Aidan admits his appears to be silver-plated peanuts, until an unexpected confrontation with the most spectacular prize that’s ever poured from a caramel corn box blindsides him. When he learns about his son’s desperate need, it pricks open the wound he’s carried since he abandoned Libby and the child.

All Libby wants is a little anonymous DNA, but Aidan has a magical umpire in his head who knows Libby’s a fateball right to the heart. When a six-year-old sage and a hippy priestess step onto the field, there’s more to settle between Libby and Aidan than heartache, redemption, and forgiveness.

 Review:
This first chapter was a little hard to get into, maybe it was the magical ump in Aidan's head or the fairies, but once I hit the second chapter it was a GO from there. This book is the most emotional book I have read yet. You can find yourself feeling what Aidan and Libby feel in the book. I smiled with them, I cried with them and my heart broke with them. Binding Arbitration is a book that shows you that not only can true love bring two people together but it can bind them deeper then just the heart, it binds their souls. It also shows that love can overcome heartbreak and make miracles happen. If you want to read a love story like no other then be sure to get your copy of Binding Arbitration TODAY! Trust me its well worth it. This is a book I will keep and read again.

About the Author:

Windy city writer, Elizabeth Marx, brings cosmopolitan life alive in her fiction—a blend of romance, fast-paced Chicago living, and a sprinkle of magical realism. In her past incarnation she was an interior designer, not a decorator, a designer, which basically means she has a piece of paper to prove that she knows how to match things, measure things and miraculously make mundane pieces of furniture appear to be masterpieces. Elizabeth says being an interior designer is one part shrink, one part marriage counselor and one part artist, skills eerily similar to those employed in writing.

Elizabeth grew up in Illinois, but has also lived in Texas and Florida. If she’s not pounding her head against the wall trying to get the words just right, you can find her at a softball field out in the boonies somewhere or sitting in the bleachers by a basketball court. Elizabeth resides with her husband, girls, and two cats who’ve spelled everyone into believing they’re really dogs.

Elizabeth has traveled extensively, but still says there’s no town like Chi Town.

QUOTES FROM BLOOD BOND

“I could never run, you know,” I said. “Not because it isn’t tempting, but because I can’t outrun me. If it were only about facing CHAS, stopping them, or changing them, I’d do it. In a second. Or I’d try. Facing myself is a different story. How can I demand they accept me when I don’t know who I am?”
“I can’t answer that for you. I can only tell you what was told to me by someone very wise: ‘Your blood doesn’t define who you are. Your choices do.’” ~Blood Bond

“What are you going to do with this, Tara?” Alex asked.
I didn’t answer him right away because honestly, I wasn’t sure. For the first time, the pressure of leadership that Wes was always talking about weighed on me. It seemed the harder I fought against it, the more I was propelled into leading a cause I wasn’t even sure I stood for yet.~~~Blood Bond

“Cord’s not all bad. You have to let her warm up to you,” Wes said.
“Right. Warm up to me.” I shook my head. “That would be like melting the polar ice cap with a space heater.”~~~Blood Bond

“You saved Tara from the attack,” Wes said, startling me with the abruptness of his words. He was still staring at Alex.
“Yes.” Alex didn’t move.
“You have feelings for her,” Wes said.
Alex hesitated for only a split second. “Yes.”
“Would you die to protect her?”
“Absolutely.”

Excerpt:
Working out was for jocks. Homework was for nerds and I wasn’t a jock or a nerd. Yet, here I was, sweating through my favorite Victoria Secret yoga pants and tank with a headache the size of Macy’s. Learning about my powers was hard work. I thought it would come naturally. My brain was hurting from concentrating and my muscles were actually sore from effort. I thought longingly of the potion in the green bottle that Hecate had given me—a little sip would make it that much easier to use my powers, but she took it away. Apparently, I had all the power she wanted me to have. It kind of pissed me off.
In fact, I was feeling pretty disgruntled all around.
I was hot, I was sweaty, my head hurt and my hair was frizzy. Not to mention I had been wearing sneakers far too long. Thank goodness Hecate was gone. I actually had been glad not to be alone after the “bone incident,” but now I was ready for some alone time. I felt stronger. Feeling strong plus feeling disgruntled equaled somebody was gonna get hurt.
I was standing in my yard near the lake and I glanced up at the moon before heading inside. It was low and swollen tonight—a haunting moon. It sent a shiver up my spine. I thought briefly about going to Heven’s and treating her to a little of what she deserved. I even looked toward the driveway as I walked, but I wasn’t going anywhere looking like this.
I went into the house and began climbing the stairs. Halfway up, I heard a noise in the kitchen and I paused. My parents were still out of town. It wasn’t the maid’s day to be here… unless she came early. Another thud in the kitchen had me spinning on the stairs to see what it was.
“Mary?” I called out. “Is that you?” Maybe she switched her schedule around and I didn’t know about it. Maybe I could get her to make me a latté.
No one answered, and the noises in the kitchen fell silent. I stopped at the bottom of the stairs and listened, wondering if I had heard anything at all. “Hello?” I called again, this time more unsure. This time a fine chill raced up my back.
Suddenly being alone in this big house was scary.
Clink, clink, clink.
Okay, I wasn’t hearing things. Someone was there.
I stepped off the stairs and walked through the foyer in the direction of the kitchen. I heard the cat hiss and I paused again. Clover was too lazy to hiss at a mouse. Something in my stomach turned cold and hard.
I looked over my shoulder at the massive front doors to the alarm keypad and the distress button.
But it was too late for pressing buttons.
Clover burst around the corner with a hideous screech and barreled into me, hitting me in the knees and causing me to stumble. The cat didn’t even stop. I could hear his claws scraping frantically across the tiles. “What the…” I began as I straightened, but then something lurched around the corner after the cat.
It was hideous.
It stood about a foot taller than me with wide shoulders that were uneven looking—one was lower than the other—and a wild mane of bushy orange hair that seemed to create a cloud around its pasty, white face. Its lips were black and it had a nasty row of teeth that had seen a lot of decay. It had large purple circles around its eyes, which seemed to have no color at all.
It looked like a psychotic clown.
I screamed and took a step backward, and the thing grinned. I went running but it lunged and caught me around the wrist, pulling me back. I struggled, kicking out, but it was no use, his grip was too strong.
Without any warning it reached up and snatched my silver pendant right off my neck. “Hey!” I screamed as it shoved me away. I fell onto my butt and stared up at the glittering silver heart as it dangled from the nasty clown’s hands.
Cole had given that to me. It was the last gift he had given me before we broke up.
Anger surged into my chest, making me hot. “Give that back.”
Freaky Clown gave me another frightening grin and ran back into the kitchen, disappearing from sight. I ran after it, running into a solid wall of… offensiveness.

Cold Blood (Dirty Blood Book #2)

Author: Heather Hildenbrand
Published: November 22, 2011

Description:
Wood Point Academy is not at all what I expected. For one thing, it looks like a cross between military school and Buckingham Palace. Everyone stares, the floors shine so bright you can see your reflection in them from a mile away, and no one smiles. Unless they're kicking your butt in the process. At least I've got plenty to take my mind off the fact that my psycho cousin, Miles De'Luca, keeps calling and declaring his love and promising to come for me just as soon as he's destroyed anyone standing in our way. Wes isn't going to like that idea. So between Miles, Wood Point's evil welcoming committee, and the drill sergeant hottie trainer from hell, I just keep asking myself…How did I end up here?

I loved reading Cold Blood, it was one of those books that def kept your attention due to the twists and turns. I also like the new charaters, Alex (the hottie trainer), Cambria (The new best friend), and Victoria (the evil top diva). Also brings in some old charaters of course, Wes, Cord, Miles, Tara's grandmother & mother. Pick up this book today to read & see what happens to Tara, trust me there are a few things you just do not see coming!

Between (Heven & Hell Book #1.5)

Author: Cambria Hebert
August 1, 2012

My Review/Description:
Logan was a normal kid. Lived with both his parents and his older brother Sam. Life was great for Logan until one day something changed, Sam changed.

After that life was never the same. Same;s father made him leave and told him to never return. After that Logan's life became a mess, his mother cried all the time, his dad became tougher on him, bullies picked on him and Logan was lonely.

Then one day in a flash everything changed for Logan, his body felt weird and felt like there were two people living in his body. Of course when his dad found out it only got worse so Logan too off to find the one person he knew would understand.

after looking and finally finding Sam, Logan also found out about Heven. Logan knew one thing now, if anyone got in the way of him being with Sam.....well.....he would come between them.

In Between Logan just wants to be normal again, wants his brother back but that does not happen the way he thinks, things change very badly for Logan and he only know he can only turn to Sam but he does not realize that Heven will be in the picture so now he wants to do whatever it takes to remove her. I felt sorry for Logan in this book cause his whole life had changed and he did not understand why and then to make matters worse he starts to turn into the one thing his father can not stand. We get to hear everything from Logan's thoughts in Between and start to see things a little clearer for him. It is a short read but it will help you understand Logan better so be sure to read Between by Cambria Hebert.

My Review/Description:
In a story of Hate vs Hope we find that the outside of a person does not always matter......

Before when we met Heven she had everything going for her. Looks, head cheerleader, and her crush had just asked her out, but that was BEFORE. Heven thought she only had to worry about clothes and grades but now due to him she was scarred forever and she did not even know who or what caused her to become like this. Now Heven is haunted by nightmares, has scars on her face, people stare at her, and her mother thinks she is evil. Worse of all she does not know that is was him who cause her to get like this. He vows to protect her but how well did that work BEFORE she met him? BEFORE she looked like this and BEFORE her mother thought she was evil?

Before when we met Sam he hid in the shadows keeping his love for Heven a secret. Never speaking to her, never being near her and that was BEFORE. His love should have stayed a secret, he should have stayed away from her like he agreed to do but he could not do it, he could not force himself to stay away from the girl he loved but now he may have ruined her life forever. Sam hated himself for what he had done to Heven and he hated himself even more now that they were together. Could she ever forgive him when she found out the truth?? There was only one way to find out, tell her the truth and vow to protect her no matter what.

In Masquerade, Heven and Sam find themselves in a battle of Hate vs Hope and you hear from all four sides. Will their love survive the battle or will hate win in the end? To find out check out Masquerade today by Cambria Hebert.

Dirty Blood (BOOK SPOTLIGHT)

Author: Heather Hildenbrand
April 2, 2011

My Review/Description:
I personally loved reading Dirty Blood. Honestly at first I thought I was not going to like it but once it got good, it REALLY got good and I could not put it down. I had to force myself to put it down and go to sleep at 2am. 5 Stars in my opinion!!

Tara’s night started off with a game of pool with her boyfriend, George, who she was having doubts about, little did Tara know her night would become unforgettable, literally, while heading for the bus stop Tara came across a girl, Liliana, that would change her night and her world, forever.

Wes showed up after Tara’s “attack”. He was shocked at the fact that this normal girl had just killed a werewolf. He was able to erase Tara’s memory of what happened with Liliana but how was he able to do this? Wes was a werewolf himself!

So how was Tara, a simple human, able to kill a werewolf? This is something both Tara and Wes wondered about. Things only get more complicated when Tara and Wes relieze they can not sense each other like they should be able to. Normally a werewolf can sense a hunter and a hunter can sense a werewolf but not with Tara and Wes. Also instead of hating each other like they should they were instead drawn to each other like a magnet.

In the end, two things are known by Tara……..
One, werewolves do exist and two she was born to kill them. Something told her though that she could never kill Wes even though she was not sure why.
Dirty Blood has exactly that, dirty blood, plus love, fighting, 2 different sides torn apart by their enemies. Want to find out what happens? Then read Dirty Blood to find out all the secrets about Tara & Wes.

Tell Me Something Tuesday July 31. 2012

From now on every Tuesday I will be doing Tell Me Something Tuesday. A weekly meme that is hosted by one of my favorite authors, Cambria Hebert, so be sure to check here every Tuesday for the post.

How do you feel about negative book reviews? Writing them and reading them…

I feel horrible when I have to write a negative review cause you never know how the author is going to react. It is my job as a reviewer to give MY honest opinion on the book that I read. If I was to lie then that is setting not only a bad example but people will think its a good read & then turn around and complain that the review was a lie or sham if themselves did not like it ethier.

Reviews are meant to be building tooks for authors so that they know what they may be doing wrong, what their fans are looking for or not looking for. That is why reviewers are around, they are around to share their thoughts with the authors so they can take into consideration what they may need to change. At the same time though do not base the book off just one review cause everyone is going to have a different opinion, it just depends on what they like to read and what style of writing they like. :)

Before (Heven & Hell #0.5)

Description
What if your life was charmed and everything in it was perfect…....
Before.

This is the story of my past. Of what things were like for me when everything was normal. Of what every teenager’s life is like. Clothes. Parties. Boys and summer vacation. What’s so wrong with that?

I liked it. I was happy.

Until things changed. I changed.

I didn’t know that lies and secrets were about to take over my existence. I didn’t know there was someone out there, someone meant just for me. I didn’t know that I was about to go on a journey, a journey that would lead me to the girl I am today.

This is the beginning of the worst year of my life. Would I go back and change things? Erase everything that has happened to go back into these moments?

Not a chance.

This is a story of before.

Before is def a grab you kinda story. Its a short read but your into within the first 5 pages. I loved this book!! In Before we meet Heven, a popular head cheerleader, and Sam, a stranger who is in love with a girl from far away. You can not help but to get into this book and keep reading until your done.

Heven was the normal, popular cheerleader in school. No worries other then the normal teenage stuff. Her day was going great, she was asked to go to a party with her crush and then became the head cheerleader of the squad. Life couldn't be more perfect for her.

Sam was a stranger in town wanting to stop "cleaning up their messes". He loved Heven from far away and thats the way it should have stayed. He sits and watches her too afraid to say something or to get too close. Not because he was afraid of her but because he was afraid of what would happen if he did, that was the deal, until he broke it.

Now Heven is living the perfect life, crush & head cheerleader, all she had to do was take care of some homework so she goes to the library and complete it and her worry would be over, so she thought but she couldnt be more wrong.

Pretty, Popular, Head Cheerleader......................That was BEFORE the broken deal...................

Where's My Son?

Published February 17th 2012

My Review/Description:
When Michael comes home to find his son missing he decides he will stop at nothing to find him and get him back. Problem is Michael's darkness grows and as it grows Michael will do whatever he has too to get his son back including murder.

Michael takes the steps im sure ANY parent would take in order to get their missing child back, but what he doesn't relieze is that he is falling into a deep dark hole that is going to end in pain.

When I started reading this book it immediately grasped my attention and held it there. I stayed up till about 3 am reading the book just so I could finish it cause I HAD to know what the outcome was going to be. I must say I was shocked by the ending but it was still a good ending ethier way. So if you want a book that will grab your attention and hold it then check out "Where's My Son"!!
